Mathematics

Across the school, Mathematics is taught through hands on and interactive learning experiences, using concrete manipulatives and resources to create strong foundations for numeracy development. At Rockingham Beach ESC, we focus on the Number strand from the Western Australian Curriculum until students are working beyond a Year 2 level of number concepts. We incorporate all other Mathematics strands into our everyday teaching. By focusing on the Number strand, we can consolidate and create strong foundations for numeracy learning that are building blocks for other stands in the Curriculum.

Twice a year, students are tested on their Number skills using an assessment that has been developed to evaluate students Number knowledge against the Australian Curriculum. Outcomes from these assessments form the basis of our future planning and goal setting.
