Communication
Being able to communicate everyday messages is crucial to the well-being of students. Our primary focus when planning for students with complex communication needs is centred around making sure that all students have a way of getting their messages across and a way of understanding messages from others. All staff members have been trained to incorporate communication pedagogy into their daily practice. We ensure that students have access to Alternative Augmentative Communication (AAC) devices with every classroom provided with Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) books to model language throughout the day. Teachers liaise with Speech Therapists and receive in class training to support students use of any AAC system that has been recommended for them.
