Social and Emotional Learning
Social and emotional learning is more than just a buzzword in education. It is a vital process of developing skills for life and well-being. At Rockingham Beach ESC we work with students to help them to understand and manage their emotions, establish positive relationships and generally feel good about themselves.
In the early years we incorporate the Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS) program into our curriculum. The PATHS program is grounded in the science of children’s brain development, which has determined that children experience and react to strong emotions before developing the cognitive abilities to verbalise them.
In Years 1 to 6 we promote the use of the Zones of Regulation, a simple approach to developing self-regulation. This provides the school with a common language for communication, problem solving and emotional understanding.
